Oak Canyon x Mega Man Site
rip: Ocxmm and duel dimension clash
Back in 2012, Oak Canyon x Mega Man was one of my most ambitious projects. With little to no programming skills whatsoever, I learned lots of things through my adventure in Mega Man's realm. Development began around summer 2012, when I began thrashing out ideas as to what fantastic game I was going to make. Faze was the very first game I made, as well as the stepping stones that would eventually become the games we all know and love. After some dislikes with the art direction, I decided to work on simple arcade projects like Tic-Tac-Toe, Pac-Man, and several others. I decided to take myself to the next level and go into 3D Programming. Unfortunately, the game became a disaster and I officially canned all of my ideas. Several months later, Street Fighter x Mega Man came out. I played it and was impressed that a game like this... created by fans could even be possible! I then began to add on to the Faze engine... working on the visuals, the camera angle, until I made a perfect Mega Man engine. Once I had completed the engine, and got into actual programming, I started to send screenshots out via Facebook. The game received some excellent feedback, and the game grew more and more popular. I then officially called the game "Oak Canyon x Mega Man" in honor of all the teachers and students of Oak Canyon. Requests came up everywhere, the official website launched, Mattia joined the team, and then after months of hard work, on April 7, 2013 I released Oak Canyon x Mega Man. The game was widely received but I don't think many people realize how much this game has influenced my life. I made lots of new friends, and I grew to the point of understanding what it means to be "cool". You see, a lot of the people in Oak Canyon x Mega Man I actually hated, and had a very strong, solid opinion against them. Today, these people are now some of my best friends, and I can't imagine what I would do without them. Just before summer had hit, on May 27, 2013, I released Version 1.1 that would feature plenty of new features like bug fixes, new bosses, and particles. The game was popular to the point where teachers began talking about it, and then when the update was released, people were very excited. Shortly after, Mr. Redford talked to me about making a spanish game... I wasn't quite ready but I had one game I wanted Mr. Redford to star in: Spanish Fighter. A parody of street fighter. I would then begin to work on an RPG game with the title of "Faze" in honor of my first game. The game never really got momentum and was never released. And as for the game featuring Dallin... interest in the game slowly decreased over time, and thus I cancelled it. Spanish Fighter was thus in the process of development. I figured working on it for the rest of the summer would considerably help out the process and then, like with I did with Oak Canyon x Mega Man, I released screenshots and people got curious. I showed off footage and renamed the game to "OCxMM: Fighting World". The name wasn't catchy, so later, I renamed it to "OCxMM: Duel Dimension Clash". People ask why I named it that a lot. So here's my answer: Oak Canyon and Mega Man are two completely different things, or two alternate dimensions. Because the game only allows two players to fight (eventually, it'd become four), I decided to say "Duel" because of the previous explanation, and "Dimension Clash" because it implies dimensions clashing into one another. Personally, it's one of my favorite titles I named myself to date. And after getting into the programming mood, I decided to begin development on a very big update for Oak Canyon x Mega Man (yes, I hate the original Oak Canyon x Mega Man due to how buggy and awkward it is... but in terms of today... it is a nostalgic dream for me). I featured off a trailer and hype really began to burst out. And that leads us to today. With the CD edition and DDC's release upon nigh, I have to announce some very sad news. I'm cancelling the public releases of DDC and 1.5. DDC will ONLY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THE SPECIAL CD EDITION. Which we're already almost sold out of. The reason for this is because I'm actually one of the most busiest guys ever. I'm working on Mega Man Omega, I'm trying to help out with a TSA video game project, I'm trying to work on DDC... it's just a mess. So, if Nathan hasn't printed out the posters or paid for them yet, I will not be releasing it via here. Yes, the only way to get it is to pay for it. It will be a private thing, meaning we can't get sued for it. My adventure with Oak Canyon x Mega Man is drawing to a close. But I hope people understand that anyone can make games. I think even the simplest ideas can become an awesome story with lots of potential. Game design isn't something for fun... it's art that withholds a masterpiece that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

faqs about ocxmm: ddc!
Q: How many characters will be in the game?
A: I made a miscalculation, I said that there would be over 200, but the exact number is a whopping 316 characters!
Q: How big will the file size be?
A: I'm estimating 3-5 Gigabytes. This is because of the graphics engine, the HD stages and characters, and the possible story mode.
Q:How many stages are planned?
A: 50 or more. But it's still up to debate.
Q: What happened to 1.1.1 and the CD edition?
A: I'm still working on them, but because development has gone so smoothly with Duel Dimension Clash, they're not something I'm too worried about.
Q: Will my character appear :( ???
A: Most likely! I'm trying to cram as many characters as possible, while still maintaining good gameplay!
Q: Will there be LAN play or online play?
A: It's definitely something I want, but it'd require lots of time... LOTS.
Q: Mac or Linux :(
A: Maybe... I'd have to delve into the Mac and Linux world first...
Q: What happened to Aang on the poll?
A: I quit making him. Nickelodeon characters stink because their sprites are terribly made.
Q: I'm good with music... can I help you with your game?
A: Heck yeah! I'll hire you in like... two seconds!

CD edition and other stuff...
So I'm back in business again! So I guess you guys need an update: OCxMM:FW will get in the way of other games. But here's how everything's going with all our planned games:
OCxMM1.1.1: The update and CD is... about... 65% done. Like I said, it's a big update, and will have lots of bug fixes, and a whole bunch of other stuff (including Mac support)
Faze: About 5% done... due to technical issues with contacting the team :(
OCxMM FW: About 15% done. Still a lot of characters, stages, and screens need to be added.
OCxMM2: About 10% done. It's my least of my concern to finish it currently.
Secret Game: ???
NEW! Game Grumps the Video Game: 2% done. This game is more of a side project, so I do it when I don't want to work on anything else XD
TBA: 0%
so yeah... I really need to get working hard, or else school will come and literally ruin my schedule... so yeah!

I'm proud to announce a new game coming soon!
Introducing a new game featuring tons of characters from all sorts of series... Oak Canyon x Mega Man: Fighting World(name not final)! In this game, you get to play as famous Oak Canyon x Mega Man characters along with DC comic characters, Marvel Characters, Disney characters, Spongebob Characters, and even more! The game will come out this month and so... let the questions begin!:
Q: Will there be online multiplayer or lan service?
A: For now, that's a no. Mainly because I fear of lag due to the detailed graphics and such. And that LAN is a bit harder to program than online for some reason.
Q: How big will the file size be?
A: VERYYY big! In fact, I'm using an installer just so it can help. When I first started and had 40 characters, the game was already at 2 GB, so yeah....
Q: How many characters and stages?
A: Most likely over 200 characters and 50 stages...
Q: So what style will this be in (smash bros., street fighter, mortal kombat, etc.)
A: Just think of it as Street Fighter Alpha 2 with a crap ton of characters XD
Q: So... this is for reals?
A: Yep! BUT, I may run into problems in the future... so I guess it's a maybe...
Q: Will Mattia and the rest of the COJAMACH team be helping you?
A: For now, that's also a no... :(
Q: Mac support?
A: I'll think about it ;)
Q: CAN I BE IN IT???
A: No. However, you can take the polls!
So yeah... enjoy these pics you guys! And tell your friends!

a halt in development
I'm lead to believe that I have a kidney stone in my right kidney, so I've basically stopped working on the game and I hope to get back to working as soon as possible.
Thanks for waiting!

1.1.1 (the cd version) will feature an updated story... and lives!
The new 1.1.1 will be another abnormally large update. As I have stated before: 1.1.1 is basically an "I'm sorry" because of the massive bugs in it. 1.1.1 will feature more playable characters, massive bug fixes, animated backgrounds, a few updated bosses, a new "chance" scenario, an updated story, Mac support, lives, Biscuit Taco Cups, Pink Ping Pong balls, new health system... sort of, and a shop system! Get excited folks! Cause this is going to be CARAAAAAAZEEEEEEE!
oak canyon x mega man 2 will be a major improvement from the original!
As much as I'm excited about the CD edition, RPG game, the secret game, etc. I think I'm very excited about Oak Canyon x Mega Man's sequel: Oak Canyon x Mega Man 2: Pursual. I think fans of the original will find that they might love this game even more! So guys, go pre-order the disc for a demo of the game! DO IT 0_0
new interview!
X: I've been on your website a lot and I always check for updates, so I'm curious on what are all the games you've planned?
Chris: Well, there is: Faze (an RPG game that takes place many years after the "Slender Ending" of OCxMM1), the top secret project with the help of brilliant concept artists and amazing 3D modelers, updates on OCxMM1, a possible FP- I MEAN SECRET GAME, and a sequel to the first game that I'm sure fans will enjoy.
X: Wait... sequel? The one with Dallin?
Chris: Sort of. I've updated a lot of things from the original engine so now it looks more professional than the first game.
X: Can you... show a screenshot maybe?
Chris: Nope
X: Darn... well... what about the secret game? How's the development on that?
Chris: VERY slow, I'm still awaiting my 3D modeler to send me his model. We're also trying to build a prototype, but until then, we are experimenting with the program :3
X: Mind if you tell me what the game will be like?
Chris: NOPE.
X:...
Chris:...
X: So I noticed on Facebook that you've been talking about a remake? So will it happen?
Chris: I will say that it hasn't come to mind before... once the secret game releases I'm sure a lot of you will kind of find a remake-ish type of thing in some way or form...
X: What about remaking other games?
Chris: Holy crap! Perfect! Once I'm done with the big games above, I want to remake the original Batman for the NES. That game is the bomb.com
X: So what about the future of your gaming career? Will you seriously get into game design?
Chris: Yep! I hope to make an Indie Game with my wonderful team! Or work for Nintendo... or Capcom... or make COJAMACH as a third-party or something. But that's just my dream X)
X: I can't think of any other questions... so... when can we end?
Chris: Now.

faze info and updated 1.1 info
As everyone knows, Faze will be our next major video game in the Oak Canyon x Mega Man series and will feature tons more story and action than our previous installment(s) and I hope everyone will enjoy it! Of course, Jaden and Colby are two amazing people and I trust them completely enough that I know that they will create a wonderful gameplay experience. I has also come to my attention that there are a few bugs I forgot to fix when releasing 1.1, so I'll fix those bugs soon and update the download links. Once again, if you find any bugs, please tell me!

desktop backgrounds for v.1.1!
notice about tomorrow's release
Just because of family problems (*cough* STAHP USING THIS COMPUTER DAD *cough*) the game may come out at 2:15 tomorrow. I was planning on releasing it this morning but you know... parents am I right?
just polishing things up for v.1.1.0!
I'm finishing up two things that deal with a new stage/boss and the new pause menu. After that... I can see if I can quickly make a grappling hook! So yeah... just 2 days (it's going to be released on 5/27/13) and it will be released in a "smashing" new way...
no grappling hook as of v.1.1 and info about mac support
It's been over a month since I announced the development of the grappling hook... unfortunately, it will not be appearing in V. 1.1.0 due to its incredible complexity and such. I dearly apologize but I promise that I will try my best to get Connor to rework it in 1.2! Also, it's been decided that the Adventures of Pusheen will be developed by Mattia and I and will be released rapidly and then ported into 1.2 with additional features. Also, the limited edition CD will be released sometime after the Mac release... which releases sometime after the windows version. Mac support will be very difficult and may include and disclude some features. So yeah... be patient Mac users, I'm working as hard as I can!
Fighting oak canyon x mega man game poll!
the adventures of pusheen delayed?
You read the title right... The Adventures of Pusheen could become a stand-alone game. The main reason is due to time constraints. Which leads into a new poll. Please vote as carefully as you can guys, this could effect the future of the development:
FRustrating grappling hooks!
One of the biggest things that is haunting me about 1.1 is the fact of not finishing the grappling hook. It's very hard to program and I'm worried that people will find a few shortcuts on some stages. Just wanted to mention this... because it's seriously hard!
pretty busy
Looks like I'm very busy... so in case any of you wondering why there hasn't been too many updates... well... that's why.
Almost done with the grapling hook! *finally*
Right now I have the flu and recently an allergic reaction from me eating sunflower seeds, but after nearly a month of working, I'm finally almost done with the grapling hook (with the help from a man who's initials are TA... he helped me A LOT!)
say hello to faster music loading, shorting loading screen, and compression!
Yep, finished my .ogg research and have finally learned GREAT file compression in less than a day. That means, easier to download and such! But the bigger problem I have now is importing the oggs and renaming into such and such, and that usually that takes a LONG TIME. Alright... that's all...
16 days remain
It's come to my knowledge that I have to work even harder and faster. My main concern is the "Out of Memory" error I get due to me using too many MP3 and WAV files. I may just create a folder that the game will access to get the sound files. So I guess file shrinkage will come out in 1.1? I guess I'll just have to wait and see...
what will we be doing after the release of the "major games"?
I've been thinking of using OCxMM's engine sometime in the future to make an 8-bit version of Kid Icarus: Uprising, one of my favorite games to date... but of course that won't happen for a while... right?
we're getting closer... and closer...
That's right! I've been working very hard lately and I'm already close to finishing and polishing everything up for 1.1! So, I guess I'll confirm 1.1's release date as May 27th (which is a certain someone's birthday). And also! On April 8, 2013 Oak Canyon x Mega Man was released... SO HAPPY 1 MONTH ANNIVERSARY GUYS :D

interviewed! *again
Got interviewed by the same guy again:
Anon: So I was thinking... maybe you should try to make a Super Smash Bros. styled game for the competitive game. Or do you think that's too hard?
Chris: I've never thought of that actually. Pretty good idea, but I think making percentages would be a little difficult. But I was thinking more of a racing game where everyone is running and sliding and shooting and riding sleds and... whoops... looks like I almost gave that all away (hint, hint, wink, wink)
Anon: Well, that sounds just as fun! Now... uh... what about the Adventures of Pusheen? I don't quite understand that...
Chris: That game is a collaboration between Josh Flickinger, Mattia, and myself. We're aiming for it being a "short minigame with a full story" type of thing. I'm planning for it to be pretty detailed with catchy tunes and such. It's been a blast making it so far!
Anon: So, you said that Mega Man will have a sort of utility belt... what kind of stuff will be on it?
Chris: Do you remember E-Tanks back when you played Mega Man 4?
Anon: Isn't that the stuff that replaces your health in scary situations?
Chris: Yep. I'm replacing those with Biscuit Taco Cups that can be received by Brady in the middle of a stage. Sort of like Eddy in Mega Man 4-??
Anon:Is that it?
Chris: Nope, so here is the full list:
Biscuit Taco Cups
Cheetos (Once 1.1 comes out, you'll see...)
Grapling Hook/Wire
Jet Pack
FALCON PUNCH!!!!!!!
Rail thingy....
and I think that's it.
Anon: Falcon Punch? Isn't that from Super Smash Bros?
Chris: Yep, you can Falcon Punch your enemies straight through the stage :)
Anon: Nice!
Chris: Indeed.
Anon: As my final question, I was wondering how many teachers have seen this?
Chris: To my knowledge; only two: Redford and Andrus.
Anon: What was their reactions lol.
Chris: I know Redford thought it was pretty cool and Andrus was impressed but that's as much as I know.

rough estimate on v. 1.1.0's release date
Because homework is practically dying down for me... for the most part, I've made a very rough estimate of May 27th as 1.1's release date. I'm working fast and long, so don't bug me! Now, because of this, V. 1.1 will not include a stage builder UNLESS I get lucky and finish everything early. Hope you're all excited! (V. 1.1.0 for macs may come later than the windows version. Unless, that is, if I finish early).
u.s. history assignment and a new unicycler...?
I did this for US History as an assignment and to introduce Juliann Mecham... why? Maybe I'm foreshadowing something...
Mega Man utility belt in v. 1.1.0?
On April 30, 2013 I received and beat Mega Man IV 100% in 4 hours. I had never beaten the game 100% before, so you can imagine my surprise when I found a secret room with a weapon called "wire."
Basically, what the wire does is it allows Mega Man to hook onto the ceiling and shoot from there. It reminded me a lot of Batman and so now I have made myself a challenge... try and create a "batman utility belt" for Mega Man... but with items that could really help on levels. More info coming soon!
The adventures of pusheen announced!!!
A collaboration with COJAMACH and Josh Flickinger, I'm proud to announce that The Adventures of Pusheen will come as a bonus mini-game (with a fully written story!!) with every download of V. 1.1.0. This game will not be interfering with future games, so not to worry!
Particles!!!!
To make the game feel a little more realistic, I've added a new particles system which allows smooth, awesome animations once an enemy dies! 1.1 will definitely be one of the greatest updates I've seen yet!
(In case you don't know, a particle is an animation like a torch light, fireworks, or explosions)

working to get enough money for an updated sdk
Lately I've been really busy but I found this upgraded thing that I believe will allow me to port onto Macs without the need of a Mac computer... I'm still researching on the topic though. But the team wants to truly thank the fans! I promise to make the portable versions as great of quality as possible! (Mattia, we need to hang out sometime so we can make some big plans for our games ;))
Difficulties that I could have:
1. Developer Licences are required in order for me to port it to an iOS device (iphone, itouch, etc.) Meaning I will be mowing lawns and doing lots of chores so I can earn the money.
2. Pirating may come into the subject and is definitely something I want to avoid as a developer. As mentioned before, I'm just going to try and earn the money.
3. Porting to Mac and Ubuntu is a very stressful process: both have very complicated coding but I'm determined to bring it to our fans because... a lot of people own Macs... and the school has Ubuntu computers soo... yeah.
EDIT: The program I'm using is so complicated... may take a while. Seriously thought, exporting to Macs takes FOREVER and it doesn't work the same as the old program. But I will try my best.

EDIT: The program I'm using is so complicated... may take a while. Seriously thought, exporting to Macs takes FOREVER and it doesn't work the same as the old program. But I will try my best.

fotu every wednesday and friday for sneak peeks at what's coming up in V. 1.1.0!
I've been working very hard on Oak Canyon x Mega Man V. 1.1.0, but it's been like a major pain in the butt. I'm almost done with pathetic mode (there are only 3 major bugs wrong with it!), and I've been remodeling stages and let's just say: it's like I'm creating a whole new game. I've been working with barely any rest and I've got school to worry about too. SOOOOO, don't push me!!!

easy mode
It feels like I'm child-proofing this mode. Seriously. If anybody can't beat it I'll probably make you have seizures or something. BECAUSE IT'S REALLY EASY.

s'more polls!
are you making a first person shooter? an rpg? what?
There have been lots of rumors going around about the next game. Allow me to clear up the confusion:
-The Top Secret game is still in debate on what style we want it, but we've narrowed it down to 2 choices.
-Faze is the RPG game. I've been asked a lot about this game and I understand that many people are excited for it, but for now please be patient as it will probably take a while.
-I'm confirming the spinoff game's title as "Oak Canyon x Mega Man: Pursual" and is currently in development right now.
-V 1.1 of Oak Canyon x Mega Man will be coming out this summer, probably in July due to time issues.
-The CD will be available also during the summer, so watch that pre-order button soon!
Thanks everyone, hope you have a fun time!

I got interviewed involving V. 2.0 and beyond
I got interviewed by someone today! Although he would like to keep his name anonymous due to private reasons:
Anon: I'm very excited for 2.0! Do you have any other plans other than the ones for 1.1?
Chris: Well, I have a lot to expect out of myself that's for sure! But one of the big things I want are custom weapons where players can make their own Mega Man weapons and such. I also really want to finish the "Mega Man feel" to the game such as gaining bosses weapons and clearing the stages. It will take a while but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Anon: That's quite interesting actually! Uh, do you have any plans for special exclusive content for the Mac version?
Chris: To be honest, I haven't delved that far into Mac support mostly due to my busy schedule, but if the fans truly want it, then I will definitely be more than willing to!
Anon: How about a multiplayer?
Chris: I will say that it's possible to do so, but I will neither confirm nor deny the possibility of multiplayer.
Anon: Well if you did make it what would it be like?
Chris: There could be cooperative game similar to Valve's Portal 2 where you will need to use a lot of teamwork for access to other rooms. As for a competitive Mega Man... I think it would be very hard to do so because games where 4 players are playing in a certain sized stage can be really cheap. So there most likely will not be a competitive Mega Man game.
Anon: So, I've actually played Mega Man 4 and I really like the password system and checkpoints, will you be adding those in too?
Chris: As I've said, I want to create that classic "Mega Man feel" so of course! (and because the stages on Master mode are insane!)
Anon: You said "Master mode", what is that?
Chris: It's the normal mode or "hard mode" of the game. There will also be a "Pathetic Mode" where you have a lot more support on your side.
Anon: And I have one more question... when will the 1.1 CD pre-order be up?
Chris: I won't say anything. I can't exactly figure out when it will be released at this point :)
Anon: Thanks for accepting my interview!
Chris: No problem!

Details on custom map creation
Back when I was first developing Oak Canyon x Mega Man, I wanted players to be able to create, play, share, and download their own custom maps with bosses. That dream may come true! Most likely you'll be able to download the maps here on the website, and I'm excited to see all your creations! (This dedicated to Mattia, because Mattia is awesome!)

Exciting news about 1.1!
Although at COJAMACH we've been focused on 3D stuff a lot, I've finally got time to do advanced features that will be in 1.1! Depending on the day of the week, new features will be added... NOTICE: ALL VOTES WILL BE TRACKED BY THEIR IP ADDRESS, SO DON'T BE STUPID :D
now hiring 3d modelers
If there is someone who is good at 3D modeling that you know, please contact [email protected]. That person must be VERY GOOD AT IT
mr. redford, teacher of spanish 1, 3, and yearbook has seen this!
Rumor has gone around that Mr. Redford has actually seen the game! I've began to work a lot harder now for V 1.1.0 because not only that he might have seen this, there's a possibility that this could get into yearbook! Looks like those 8 months have really paid off!

the team is splitting up
This isn't as bad as it sounds! Believe me! Here at COJAMACH, there will be massive changes as soon as V 1.1.0 of Oak Canyon x Mega Man comes out. Connor Mcknight will be handling later versions of Oak Canyon x Mega Man including the spinoff game, Jaden Jarman and Colby... something will work on Faze (the "sequel") and Mattia and I will work on a top secret project and handle the website.

Fps megaman was in development
Earlier today at polygon.com, a shocking reveal was announced that the people behind the Metroid Prime series were planning on creating a Mega Man first person shooter that would reboot the X series. According to the info, the game would be a trilogy; the first to games would feature X as the protagonist and the second game would feature Zero fighting X after his new profound power. There was also a prototype built in which you can see in the link below. The game was later cancelled in 2010 when Mega Man creator, Mr. Inafune, left Capcom. Personally, I'm angered on how Capcom has cancelled three of what could have been some of the greatest games ever created! But this truly breaks the toothpick for me. If anyone starts a petition asking for this game to be revived I would immediately sign it without a doubt: http://www.polygon.com/2013/4/9/4179628/mega-man-fps-maverick-hunter

Some concept art made by Mattia Lo' Russo!
The Unicyclers are in the First Game!
Josh Gardner (pink), Jason Harline (Dark Blue), Kolton Cook (Light Blue), and Daniel Mortenson (Green) were planned to be in the second game. Due to personal problems of the team, and how Mattia and I have finally made all 24 main bosses, we decided to make the Unicyclers and Redford the fortress bosses. Be sure to check the website more often too, because we may be announcing the release soon!
